Mike McCullagh’s Hits of the Sixties and Seventies – Tuesday April 26, 2011
First there was the 60 Something (founded and directed by Mike McCullagh of McCully’s Workshop fame) started at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront in 1992 and was the first big tribute show of its kind. Paying tribute to top 60′s artists like Petula Clark, Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Tina Turner and many more, the show became an instant success and ran for over four years consecutively to more than 250,000 patrons.
In 2008… the show was revamped and re-opened at the Barnyard Theatre at Willowbridge to critical acclaim and played to packed houses. This year it is back and McCullagh (on drums) is joined by a fantastic cast of talented musicians and singers. These include the infamous Duck Chowles on lead vocals from Barnyard Theatres, TV star Keenan Arrisson (Shooting Stars) who is not only the compere and singer but also does a neat comedy turn.
He is aided by the phenomenal Lucy Holgate and Riaan Cornelius also on vocals, Kyle Petersen on keyboards, Warren Lomberg on guitar, Neil Peyton on bass, and Morgan King on sax.
Critics said:
“Amazing talent!” – Cape Times
“Kick-butt rock ‘n roll brilliantly portrayed!” – Cape Argus
“It’s one big party showing Cape Town’s got talent!” – Die Burger
“If it’s good old fashioned rock ‘n roll you’re after and you want to re-live the 60′s, The Original 60 Something is not to be missed!” – EP Herald.
Following the great success of this show at a packed Potters in January 2011 , the show returns with more hits – also from the seventies. Expect a really fun-filled evening that will get your body moving and hands clapping!!
