He dreamt to play rugby at Loftus Versfeld one day. When he did enter the stadium, it was to sing the part of Don Jose in the opera Carmen.
Jannie Moolman made his mark as tenor in operas like Nabucco, Der Rosenkavalier, Lucia di Lammermoor and many more but became a household name when he first shared the stage with Rina Hugo in the early ‘90’s, then as member of the well-known group Ons Eie Drie Tenore and performing in productions such as Klassieke Pelle and Ge Korsten: Hoor my lied .

Jannie was born in Kwazulu-Natal and began his opera career as a tenor in 1990 after completing his degree in communication at the University of the Free State. In 1992 he became a solo artist at the Pretoria State Theatre and made his debut at the Cape Town Opera in 1994.
Since then Jannie has toured extensively through the country, headlining shows at some of South Africa’s biggest art festivals including Spier, Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees, Aardklop and the Grahamstown Arts Festival. His career in the opera takes him through the world where he performed in Austria, Germany, England, Hong Kong and through Africa. Through the years he had been recognised for his work through receiving numerous awards.
Apart from his solo career, Jannie regularly performs with three superb musicians in the production: 4X4 No Tracks. This show steals the heart of any music lover, as it is a live performance with a band.
