Without shoes

Never with a pair of shoes

- From our Newsletter April 26, 2011 -
Rod Dry looks like he has spent his life mining for silver in the mountains with his bare hands. And the eyes may tell you that he found silver “in them thar mountains”.

But that is not true.

Silver Creek Mountain Band Combi

Rod’s hands make music. The man is an icon. Most cities, towns and dorpies will have someone that knows him from somewhere. Mostly you will find him with his double bass. Never with a pair of shoes. He drives around in a combi with a VW beetle on top. The model year is 1963. He does not understand the internet and a back-track is something a trail wagon leaves in the sand.

The trail also brought him a son. It is 22 years later and Shrugg Dry is now the lead singer of the band.

Character and intrigue hang over them like a cloud.

He and his mates make music. Along the way there have been many of them. The Silver Creek Mountain Band is a music legend that has been around for 40 years. This band has many stories to tell and many songs to sing – of the kind you expect to hear from them. Folk Songs, Blues, Bluegrass and original songs – penned on the road.

You will want to hear their stories and you will want to hear them sing. You will want to meet Rod and you will want to tell about that day.

Meet them at Potters Place on 2nd May 2011. Tickets cost R60 per person.
