Dave Goldblum

One of South Africa’s Music Icons

Singer- songwriter and guitarist Dave Goldblum has toured extensively at home and abroad, and, to date, has released 5 albums. His anthem ‘Say Africa’ was performed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the FIFA World Cup( performed by Vusi Mahlasela), as well as the SA Music Awards, and numerous times on TV and radio in SA and internationally.

Dave has played at numerous festival venues in South Africa – twelve Splashy Fens and as many Grahamstown Festivals. He currently resides and plays around East London but has played extensively at venues in Cape Town (for eight years) and Johannesburg (for three years). He has supported acts such as Crosby, Stills and Nash, Jennifer Ferguson, and has played with Steve Newman, Tony Cox and Syd Kitchen. Outside South Africa he has played in Cornwall (UK), Austria, Israel and Switzerland. At a joint concert in early 2007, rock and folk master Shawn Phillips described Dave as ‘one of the best singer-songwriters in South Africa’. Dave has also been associated with the Port Elizabeth Folk Music Club for over 25 years, and has hosted and played with many visiting musicians. He has also been involved with hosting Fire Club, an interactive music and poetry show held in Port Elizabeth by raconteur Dorien du Toit.

Dave has supported the likes of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Shawn Phillips, and even David Kramer, Valiant Swart and Jeremy Taylor in his long and varied career.

His music can be described as a fusion of jazz, folk and African – a style that he has made uniquely his own.
